Background and Intro to the Traveller Universe

We play classic Traveller ... but, as with most of our roleplays, some house rules.
It uses 2d6 with success target numbers.
To the roll of 2d6 is added skill level and modifiers.
Attributes Attribute Modifiers Strength 2d6 Dexterity 2-3 -2 Endurance 4-5 -1 Intelligence 6-8 n/a Education 9-10 +1 Social 11-12 +2 Psionics 13-14 +3 Charisma 15 +4 Note - we automatically allow survival/promotion/commission Normally characters get 5 skills for the first term and 2-3 for each additional term After beginning play, we assign 10-100 experience points per encounter, 20-200 per system explored (not just scanned), and 50-250 per adventure completed Characters are considered "freelance" class after beginning play and get 2 skills per level advanced. The skills to be gained must be trained or practiced for during play. Terms completed during character generation take 48 months (4 years) Terms completed in play take months Experience table Terms/ Experience Level Range 1 0 - 1000 2 1001 - 3000 3 3001 - 6000 4 6001 - 10 000 5 10 001 - 15 000 6 15 001 - 21 000 7 21 001 - 28 000 Note: Player characters in Traveller have access to better medicines and high tech hormone treatments at inexpensive cost. Aging effects do not occur until after age 55 Notes : Intelligence and Education affect the number of skills, they do not modify the dice rolls Dexterity is added to initiative, not the dice roll to hit Likewise strength adds to melee damage and carrying ability, not the melee to hit roll Health is Strength + Endurance + Dexterity + 4 points per level/term |
